Catering Venue Review – Andrew Richard Designs

Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, Andrew Richard Designs is truly a unique venue to host your next kosher catering event. The ARD building offers two event spaces, The Atrium and The Loft. The areas can be rented together or separately, making it the perfect place to host any social or corporate event.

The Atrium can accommodate up to 1,000 guests with its 15 ft. ceilings, a restored skylight, and floor to ceiling windows. The Loft, the second beautiful space, is perfect for a more intimate gathering (if 350 guests counts as intimate!). With 11 ft. ceilings, exposed brick, and an outdoor patio, The Loft is a gorgeous backdrop for any spring/summer events.

Shabbat Schmoozing – Trend: Deconstructed Dishes

At Applause, we are always looking for new and innovative dishes to introduce to the kosher catering industry. Our chefs are constantly pushing the envelope to introduce fresh ideas to our customized menu options. We have been loving deconstructed dishes lately.

It is a unique way to serve an otherwise traditional dish to your guests without going over budget or serving something completely out-of-the-box. Exciting, yet familiar, deconstructed dishes are fantastic hors d’oeuvres to serve at your next kosher special occasion.

Shabbat Schmoozing With Salmon

Salmon is a fantastic kosher catering choice to eat on Shavuot. Salmon contains vitamins and minerals associated with cancer prevention. These have been found to reduce the risk for certain cancers. Salmon is also loaded with protein and omega-3 fatty acids, which are necessary for normal body functions and help to reduce inflammation.

Our bodies cannot make omega 3 fats, therefore we must get them from the foods that we eat. Salmon is perfect for anyone with dietary restrictions, such as a dairy intolerance, gluten allergies, and nut allergies, among others. It is also a pareve dish, which makes it easier to accompany with dairy for your kosher catering meal.

Salmon can be made in a variety of different ways including:

However you choose to prepare it, salmon is always a perfect choice!! For more information, or to inquire about Applause`s kosher catering services for Shavuot, call or email us today!

Enjoy A Dairy Free Shavuot!

On Shavuot, it is customary to eat dairy products. From cheesecake, to blintzes, and ice cream, Shavuot is a time to enjoy your favourite dairy treats. With dietary restrictions today that may not have existed in the biblical times, it is important to adapt to our ever-changing diets. Applause wants to help you celebrate a dairy-free Shavuot!

Grilled veggies are a great option to serve on Shavuot! They perfectly complement any meal, are simple to make, and of course are dairy free.

These salad rolls can be prepared as both as appetizer or a main course. Keep it simple by using fresh veggies or add some protein to make it a meal. Try adding salmon or tuna to your salad rolls for a protein packed dairy-free dish.

Sushi is another dairy-free alternative to serve on Shavuot. An untraditional choice, sushi is surely to be enjoyed by the entire family. There are many different ways to serve sushi and hundreds of combinations that can be made. Applause caterers a unique deconstructed sushi dish, or opt for a traditional roll.

Have Applause cater your Shavuot meal for a hassle-free (and dairy-free) experience. Together, we can create a custom menu based on your preferences and dietary restrictions.

Fruit in Season – Cherries

Celebrate the arrival of the warm weather with seasonal fruits. Cherries are a versatile choice to add to your kosher catering meals this spring!

Cherries are a beloved fruit in the summertime. Cherry season comes and goes in the blink of an eye, so enjoy your cherries now in a variety of different ways. Cherries are best used in a dessert, and can be baked into a tart or pie, or simply be dipped in dark chocolate for a sweet treat.

Applause also combines cherries into salads such as our “Beet Organic Greens” with roasted beets, orange segments, and caramelized walnuts.

Shabbat Schmoozing – Lag B’Omer

One of the great parts of being a Kosher Caterer here in Toronto, is that the Jewish faith has so many food-centric holidays! Of course we all know of apples and honey for Rosh Hashana, Latkes for Chanukkah, and Matzah Balls for Passover. However it is the lesser known holidays that allow caterers and diners alike to really flex their creative culinary muscles.

On May 7 we will be celebrating Lag B’omer in the Applause office. Lag B’omer, or the 33rd day in the Counting of the Omer is a great time for Jewish celebration. For many, this is the one day during the Omer when couples may celebrate weddings; in fact this date often marks the first opportunity for a Jewish wedding in spring!

While there are many traditions honoured on Lag B’omer, one of our favourites is lighting bonfires. Why would a caterer love bonfires over weddings, you ask? Because some of the best foods are created over an open flame! The most delicious bonfire food that comes to mind: S’mores.

For anyone looking to bring some more S’mores into their life, whether it is for Lag B’omer, a family BBQ, or even a Bar Mitzvah, Applause has some great options. For example, have a look at our S’mores Shooters and S’mores Push Pops; layers of gooey Marshmallow Cream, Graham Cracker Crumbs, Dark Chocolate Ganache, & a Raspberry Brandy Emulsion (for the adult party-goers).

Our Chefs have also gotten creative with S’mores Hot Cocoa for those chillier nights out at the bonfire, and S’mores Samosas filled with Chocolate and drizzled with a Marshmallow Cream.
